BRATISLAVA, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Banska Bystrica cut the deficit to Slovan Bratislava, the leader of the Slovak premier league Tipsport Liga, to five points after triumphing in Miskolc 4-1 on Friday.

One of the two Hungarian clubs playing in the Slovak league, Miskolc managed to answer the visitors' opening goal but Banska Bystrica scored three more (two goals by Milos Bubela) to put the game away and hold the second rank in the league without much of a hassle.

The 26th round of Tipsport Liga saw two great winning streaks come to an end. After securing six victories in a row, the players of Trencin had to bow their heads before Poprad 1-4. Despite opening the score, Trencin failed to stop the visitors from scoring four straight goals in return. Both Marek Zagrapan and Patrik Svitana scored twice for Poprad.

Nitra caused a lot of headlines in the Slovak media after signing the former NHL-star Kris Versteeg (14 seasons in the National Hockey League with a total of 167 goals and 239 assists) who decided to play at least one season in Nitra alongside his younger brother Mitch.

Although he did not score during his debut, Versteeg definitely brought new energy to the team and helped Nitra turn the game against Zvolen around with an assist. The home team was losing 0-2 in the second period but managed to score four straight goals, two by the Canadian forward Judd Blackwater, winning 4-2 in the end and ending Zvolen's five-game streak in the process.

In a battle of two low-ranked teams, tenth-placed Detva beat the worst club of the league Nove Zamky 6-3, inflicting a third defeat in a row. The home team excelled especially on their power-plays, converting on five in total. Detva's forward Peter Zuzin finished the night with two goals and two assists. Enditem
