WASHINGTON -- Nine people, including two children, were killed and three others injured in a plane crash Saturday in the U.S. state of South Dakota, U.S. media reported, citing local authorities.

Peter Knudson, an official with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), was quoted as saying that a Pilatus PC-12 plane with 12 people on board crashed at about 12:30 p.m. local time (1830 GMT) shortly after taking off from Chamberlain, a city in the southern part of the state. MEXICO CITY -- Four police officers and 10 suspected gunmen of the Cartel of the Northeast were killed in an hour-long gunbattle in Mexico's northern state of Coahuila, authorities said Saturday.

Miguel Angel Riquelme Solis, governor of Coahuila state, said six more policemen were injured in the battle and several municipal workers were missing. (Mexico-Gunfight-Cartel)

HANOI -- A semi-trailer truck hit two motorbikes and an electric bike on Saturday in Vietnam's central Phu Yen province, killing four people and injuring three others, Vietnam News Agency reported.

The truck was heading in a north-south direction and hit a motorbike driven by a 40-year-old woman carrying her five-year-old daughter then collided an electric bike by a 14-year-old girl in Dong Hoa district, killing all three people. (Vietnam-Road Accident-Toll)

FARAH, Afghanistan -- Nine militants have reported killed as the government forces targeted Taliban hideouts in Lash Wa Juwyn district of the western Farah province, said Defense Ministry in a statement released Sunday.

A group of Taliban fighters, according to the statement was going to attack security checkpoints in the restive district late Saturday night but the security forces in pre-emptive operations stormed the militants' hideouts killing nine including their commander Mawlawi Shamsudin on the spot.
