NEW DELHI, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Swiss company Zurich Airport International AG has won the bid to design, build and develop a new airport in Jewar in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh, local media reports said.

Spread over 5,000 hectares, the new airport will have eight runways and cater to 70 million passengers a year by 2040-50, even as the first phase to be ready by 2023.

A senior officer was quoted as saying that the Zurich Airport International AG had been selected as it offered the "best price."

According to the officer, now the project would go to the Project Monitoring and Implementation Committee (PMIC), which will meet on Dec. 2 for required paperwork, and subsequently PMIC will recommend the same to the Uttar Pradesh cabinet for further formalities. Enditem
