WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer announced on Monday that he proposed action to impose additional tariffs on some 2.4 billion U.S. dollars worth of French products, citing an investigation that has found French digital services tax "unreasonable" and "discriminatory."

In a statement released Monday afternoon, the USTR said he is issuing a Federal Register notice explaining the issue, and the notice solicits comments from the public on the the proposed action, which includes additional duties of up to 100 percent on certain French products. (U.S.-France-Tariffs)

LONDON -- A 12-year-old boy was killed and five others were injured on Monday afternoon in a hit-and-run crash near a school in Essex in southeast England.

SANTIAGO -- As many as 21 people were killed after a passenger bus plunged into a ravine in northern Chile, local authorities said Monday.

DUBLIN -- A light aircraft collapsed on the runway while landing at Shannon airport in Ireland on Monday afternoon, forcing the closure of the airport runway for about two hours and affecting several incoming and departing flights.

According to a statement of the airport and local media reports, no one was injured in the incident which took place at 16:28 p.m. local time when the nose-wheel of the plane collapsed during the landing on the airport runway. (Ireland-Aircraft-Collapse) Enditem
