Deadly car bombing hits Syria's rebel-held city near Turkish border

DAMASCUS, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- A car bomb exploded on Wednesday in the rebel-held Ras al-Ayn city in northeastern Syria, leaving an unknown number of people killed and wounded, state news agency SANA reported.
The bomb went off in the al-Corniche street in the countryside of Hasakah Province near the Turkish border, SANA said.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said two people were killed and six others wounded in the "powerful" explosion that rocked Ras al-Ayn city controlled by the Turkey-backed rebels.
The explosion took place near a checkpoint run by the Turkish forces, according to the Britain-based watchdog group.
The wounded were taken across the border to Turkish hospitals, it said.
The bombing is the latest in a series of explosions targeting Turkey-backed rebels and Turkish forces in northern Syria since Ankara launched an offensive against the Kurdish forces in northern Syria in October.
Ras al-Ayn is among other cities and villages which were overran by Turkey over the past two months. Enditem
