SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- China's Shaanxi Province is seeking to collaborate with Silicon Valley in energy, smart manufacturing and creative industries, said a Chinese delegation visiting Silicon Valley on Wednesday.

"There are a few areas where Shaanxi and Silicon Valley can work together to benefit people of both countries, such as new energy and new materials, smart manufacturing and creative industries," said Li Shengrong, deputy director-general of the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Commerce, at a seminar in Silicon Valley.

The China (Shaanxi)-U.S. (Silicon Valley) Industry Cooperation Seminar was organized by the Xi'an Municipal Bureau of Investment Cooperation in Santa Clara, California, attracting dozens of members from local business and high-tech communities.

Shaanxi has maintained a close relationship with the United States, especially in the areas of economics and trade, said Li, head of the delegation, which is composed of officials from Shaanxi's development districts and financial institutions.

Last year, imports and exports between Shaanxi and the United States amounted to 6 billion U.S. dollars. Meanwhile, 87 companies from Shaanxi had invested in the United States, while American companies had invested in 724 projects in the province by 2018, according to Li.

Looking forward, the province has great potential and the market demand to develop the high-end material industry, thanks to the province's strong industry base, Li said during the seminar.

"The province is in great need of industrial transformation and upgrading, which demands technologies related to smart manufacturing, so I hope we can further collaborate with Silicon Valley in such areas," said Li.

The province also has rich resources in the areas of higher education and talent, which provides a sound foundation to develop a creative economy, he said.

"Shaanxi Province is a leader in China, in green and smart city infrastructure, and research and development, both of which require innovation and creativity," said Max Oltersdorf, deputy director for International Affairs and Trade at the California Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development, in his speech at the seminar.

He told the delegation that Silicon Valley is the right place to work with in terms of developing innovation and creative thinking.

"All of California is an ecosystem where thinkers, inventors, creators and doers exist side by side," said Oltersdorf, noting that California and China are "actually alike" in clean energy production, electric vehicles and the green economy.

"We are extremely proud and grateful for the close relations we have with our friends and partners across the Pacific," he said. "We look very forward to continuing to work with you to achieve our mutual goals." Enditem
