GENEVA, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Swiss Federal Statistical Office (FSO) said Thursday that the hotel sector registered 22.6 million overnight stays in Switzerland during the 2019 summer tourist season from May to October.
The figure marked an increase of 2.4 percent compared with the same period a year earlier.
With a total of 12.9 million overnight stays, foreign demand during the period rose by 2.1 percent, while domestic visitors registered a 2.8 percent increase, FSO said.
Switzerland has long been considered as one of the planet's most attractive tourism destinations.
According to the latest official figures, though the Swiss tourism industry had been hit by the strong franc currency, which made holidays in Switzerland more expensive, the number of overnight stays in Swiss hotels in 2018 increased by 3.8 percent to 38.8 million. Enditem
