ODESSA, Ukraine, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Four people have been killed, and 11 are still missing as a result of a fire in the building of the Odesa college with the death toll expected to rise further as the firefighters have no hope to find people alive, the Ukrainian State Emergency Service said on its website Friday.

"It's hard to talk about it, but there is no hope. All the rooms that remained undestroyed by the fire were examined. No one was found," the deputy head of the Odessa regional branch of the State Emergency Service Alexander Kritsky told the media on Friday.

A total of 30 people were injured in the fire, 18 of whom remain in hospitals.

The fire broke out on the third floor of the six-story building of the Odessa College of Economics, Law, Hotel, and Restaurant business at 10:12 a.m. local time on Wednesday.

Police opened criminal proceedings on violation of the fire safety requirements. December 5 and 6 are declared mourning days in Odessa. Enditem
