COPENHAGEN, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- A climate law to ensure that Denmark achieves the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 70 percent in 2030 was passed in parliament on late Friday evening.

The Climate Act,endorsed by 167 of the 179 members of parliament, obliges present and future governments to work towards the goal.

Besides, binding targets and sub-targets must be set each year by a majority in the Danish parliament.

"Of course, I am extremely happy and proud that we have succeeded in creating a climate law... But this means that future governments will also be tied to the 70 percent target in 2030," said Minister of Climate, Energy, and Utilities Dan Jorgensen immediately after completing the negotiations.

The Climate Act will soon be followed by a series of climate action plans in the spring of 2020. Enditem
