NEW DELHI, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- India's Home Minister Amit Shah will introduce to the Lower House of Indian Parliament the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) on Monday, officials said.

The bill aims at granting citizenship to illegal immigrants belonging to six religions -- Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Jainism, Parsi and Christianity -- from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan. However, it has kept out Muslims from applying for the citizenship.

"As per the List of Business released by Lok Sabha (Lower House) for tomorrow (Monday), Amit Shah to move the Bill further to amend the Citizenship Act, 1955, be taken into consideration," an official at Lok Sabha secretariat said. "He will also move the Bill to be passed in the house."

The Indian government cleared the CAB on Wednesday.

Opposition parties have criticized the bill as contrary to secular principles enshrined in India's constitution as it excludes Muslims. Enditem
