CAIRO, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi said on Tuesday that he and South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa agreed to boost bilateral cooperation in all fields.

"We had in-depth and fruitful discussions that dealt with all bilateral relations...we agreed to improve the rates of trade exchange between the two countries, and ways to encourage economic and investment relations between Egypt and the Republic of South Africa," Sisi said during a televised press conference after his meeting with Ramaphosa in Cairo.

Regarding the regional situation, Sisi said they underscored the importance of continuing coordination to support stability and security efforts in Africa.

He said they also highlighted the necessity of settling existing conflicts in the continent, activating "Silencing the Guns in Africa" plan and pushing forward African development and infrastructure efforts.

Sisi underlined the principle of "African solutions to African problems" in a manner consistent with the realistic and practical context of African countries.

"We also reaffirmed our keenness to support relations between the countries of the African continent through the activation of the continental free trade agreement which has already entered into force," Sisi added.

Economic relations between Egypt and South Africa have been growing steadily since the establishment of official diplomatic relations in 1994, with a leap in trade ties in the past few years. Enditem
