BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.24 percent, at 2,924.42 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.64 percent lower at 9,852.7 points.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Wednesday at 4512.39 points, up 5.45 points from Tuesday's finish.

Among a total of 351 issues traded, 123 registered gains and 165 incurred losses while 63 remained unchanged.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher on Wednesday. Equity markets staged a smart recovery in the last hour of Wednesday's trading session amid brisk buying in information technology (IT) and financial counters.

HDFC, TCS, ICICI Bank, and Infosys were among the top contributors towards the recovery.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Wednesday moved down 1.14 points, or 0.07 percent to close at 1,551.82 points.

Some 17.67 billion shares worth 49.38 billion baht (about 1.64 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.32 percent, or 10.01 points, to close at 3,172.90.

A total of 920.57 million shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.02 billion Singapore dollars (about 750 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 224 to 152.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 961.78 points on Wednesday, up 1.48 points, or 0.15 percent against the previous trading day.

Nearly 216.5 million shares worth roughly 4.4 trillion Vietnamese dong (190.7 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange. Specifically, foreign investors bought almost 16.4 million shares totaling 554 billion Vietnamese dong (24.1 million U.S. dollars), and sold approximately 22 million shares totaling 691 billion Vietnamese dong (30 million U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Wednesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,563.19, up 1.40 points or 0.09 percent, and the Emas was at 11,124.00, up 13.27 points or 0.12 percent.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 102.38 points on Wednesday, up 0.34 points or 0.33 percent from the previous trading session.

Nearly 24.7 million shares worth almost 263.8 billion Vietnamese dong (11.5 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Wednesday. Specifically, foreign investors bought 374,320 shares valued at approximately 4 billion Vietnamese dong (172,560 U.S. dollars), and sold 778,182 shares valued at roughly 4.1 billion Vietnamese dong (177,100 U.S. dollars).

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 208.81 points, or 0.79 percent, to 26,645.43 points on Wednesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 26,364.43 and 26,659.98. Turnover totaled 74.34 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 9.51 billion U.S. dollars).

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Wednesday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index up 0.16 point, or 0.02 percent, to close at 775.01 points.

A total of 19,066 shares worth 86.06 million riel (21,167 U.S. dollars) were traded, the CSX said.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.65 percent higher on Wednesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 50.23 points to 7,786.41. The all-share index went up by 13.65 points, or 0.30 percent, to 4,623.66.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher Wednesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 7.62 points, or 0.36 percent, to settle at 2,105.62. Trading volume stood at 662 million shares worth 4.8 trillion won (4 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed slightly lower Wednesday in cautious trade as investors refrained from making bold moves ahead of the outcome of the U.S. Federal Reserve's policy meeting later in the day.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 18.33 points, or 0.08 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 23,391.86.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market has finished sharply higher on Wednesday, despite a muted start to the beginning of the session.
