Tokyo stocks close mixed on Fed's economic view, caution ahead of British election

TOKYO, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed mixed Thursday as early buying on the U.S. Federal Reserve's upbeat view of the economy was offset by caution as Britian gears up for a general election.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 32.95 points, or 0.14 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 23,424.81.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 2.12 points, or 0.12 percent, to finish at 1,712.83.
Metal product and machinery issues led notable gainers, while farm and fishery, and miscellaneous product-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play. Enditem
