HARARE, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Nine people died while several others were injured in two separate road accidents in Zimbabwe on Thursday.
According to police, five people died on the spot and 11 others were injured when a pick-up truck and a haulage truck collided at the intersection of Harare Drive and Borrowdale road in Harare Thursday morning.
Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said drivers of the two vehicles failed to give each other way as the traffic lights at the intersection were not working.
In the second incident, four people died while several others were seriously injured when a Zambia-bound bus was involved in an accident in Makuti, Mashonaland West Province.
"Details of the accident are still sketchy, we have our teams on the ground and we are waiting for more information on the cause of the accident. However, we can confirm that four people died on the spot and several others were seriously injured," Nyathi said.
Fatal road traffic accidents are a common feature on Zimbabwe's urban and rural roads mainly due to human error and the dilapidated state of some of the roads. Enditem
