NEW YORK, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) - The U.S. dollar increased in late trading on Thursday as possible progress on U.S.-China trade issues led to higher risk appetite.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, increased 0.37 percent at 97.4211 in late trading.
In late New York trading, the euro decreased to 1.1111 U.S. dollars from 1.1138 U.S. dollars in the previous session, and the British pound decreased to 1.3132 U.S. dollars from 1.3208 U.S. dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar rose to 0.6898 U.S. dollar from 0.6888 U.S. dollar.
The U.S. dollar bought 109.34 Japanese yen, higher than 108.49 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar increased to 0.9858 Swiss franc from 0.9816 Swiss franc, and it was up to 1.3184 Canadian dollars from 1.3164 Canadian dollars. Enditem
