TRIPOLI, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- The UN-backed Libyan Prime Minister Fayez Serraj on Sunday confirmed that his government is working to achieve economic recovery despite the ongoing armed conflict with the rival east-based army.

Serraj made the remarks during his meeting with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Qatar's capital Doha, according to a statement issued by the prime minister's information office.

"The prime minister briefed the emir of Qatar on the political and security developments as well as the repercussions of the aggression on the capital Tripoli, stressing that in parallel to confronting the aggression, the Government of National Accord is working to establish security and stability and to achieve economic recovery," the statement said.

The meeting also discussed the upcoming Berlin conference on Libya, the statement said, adding both leaders agreed on the importance of inviting all countries concerned with the Libyan affairs to the conference.

Serraj's government has been engaged in a deadly armed conflict since early April in and around Tripoli against the east-based army, which is trying to take over the city and overthrow the UN-backed government.

On Saturday, Serraj met with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar in Doha, where they discussed political and security developments in Libya, international efforts to resolve the Libyan crisis, and bilateral relations.

The officials also discussed ways to implement two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) on security cooperation signed recently by the two countries.

The MoUs came as Turkey is disputing oil and natural gas in the Mediterranean with Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus.

Serraj on Saturday participated in the annual Doha Forum, a global platform for dialogue that brings together world leaders to explore innovative and applicable solutions. Enditem
