WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin spoke over phone on Sunday on counterterrorism and bilateral ties, said the White House on Monday.

"President Vladimir Putin of Russia called President Donald J. Trump to thank him for information the United States provided that helped foil a potential holiday terrorist attack in Russia," said the White House in a statement. (U.S.-Trump-Putin)

BERLIN -- Operations of low-cost airline Germanwings, subsidiary of Germany's largest airline Lufthansa, were severely restricted after flight attendants started a three-day strike action on Monday.

Around 180 flights were expected to be cancelled, most of them inner German connections. The German flight attendants' union UFO had initiated the strike and asked its members not to show up for work between Monday and Wednesday. (Germany-Flights-Cancel)

DUBLIN -- Over 50 Syrian refugees including 28 children aged under eight arrived in Ireland on Monday and will be resettled in the country under the Irish Refugee Protection Programme, national radio and television broadcaster RTE reported.

These refugees who belong to 11 families came in a flight from Beirut of Lebanon into Dublin Airport earlier in the day and have been temporarily put up at Mosney Accommodation Center in County Meath, which lies some 40 km north of Dublin, RTE said. (Ireland-Syria-Refugees)

TIRANA -- Over 10,000 citizens affected by the strong earthquake on Nov. 26 have been accommodated in tents, head of the Operational Bureau for Natural Disaster Management Bled Cuci said on Monday.
