NAIROBI, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's Emmanuel Korir and Vincent Kibet will be the torchbearers for the country in the World Athletics Indoor Tour with hope to prove the country can redeem itself ahead of the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China in March.

Korir, 23, who was primed to win gold in Birmingham World Indoor Championships in 2018 but was denied an entry visa, will be one of the stars the country will be entering in this year's event, which runs from March 13-15.

"When you work hard for your dreams some people don't care but God is great," Korir said.

Kenya only won one bronze medal in Birmingham through Bethwel Birgen in the 3,000m fat race.

But Korir and Kibet are optimistic the country will improve on their position and dominate in Nanjing.

"I want to run in the Indoor tour and hope to win one of the slots to make the team to Nanjing," said Kibet. "Kenya has a great talent it will be a big contest in the middle distance races."

The World Athletics Tour will see the winners become eligible for a wildcard entry to the World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 2020, subject to the approval of their national federation.

The fifth edition of the indoor tour will kick off in Boston (USA) on Jan. 25, with stops in Karlsruhe (Germany) on Jan. 31, Dusseldorf (Germany) on Feb. 4, Torun (Poland) on Feb. 8, Glasgow (Scotland) on Feb.15, before taking in the newest addition to the circuit, Lievin (France) on Feb. 19.

The final meeting on the World Athletics Indoor Tour will be held in Madrid on Feb. 21. Enditem
