BUDAPEST, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Hungarian government will continue its development scheme for large cities entitled "Modern Cities Program" in 2020, it said in a statement here on Monday.

"In the framework of the Modern Cities Program launched in 2015, a total of 4,000 billion Hungarian forints (13.5 billion U.S. dollars) will be spent on urban development projects, of which more than 1,500 billion forints have already been implemented in the largest Hungarian towns," the statement said.

The Modern Cities Program entails economic, industrial, transport, health, educational, cultural, sports and other developments.

The aim of the program is to enable the 23 largest towns of the country to provide the local population with a better quality of life, the statement said.

"In 2020, the residents of Hungary's big cities will be able to enjoy new theaters, swimming pools, schools, industrial parks, along with health and tourism institutions," according to the statement. (1 U.S. dollar = 294.5 Hungarian forint) Enditem
