ISLAMABAD, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- At least nine people including a police officer were killed and several others injured when a bomb went off inside a mosque in capital city Quetta of Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province on Friday night, a senior police officer said.
The blast happened when people including the deceased deputy superintendent police of Quetta were offering prayers inside the mosque, Deputy Inspector General of Quetta police Abdul Razzaq Cheema told Xinhua.
However, he did not reveal the nature of the blast as a police investigation to determine the cause of the fatal explosion is underway.
The injured people have been shifted to Civil Hospital Quetta where a state of emergency has been declared by the authorities.
No group or individual has claimed the attack.
This is the second blast that hit the city in less than a week's time. Earlier on Tuesday, two people were killed and 18 others injured when an improvised explosive device was detonated near security forces' vehicle in Quetta. Enditem
