HELSINKI, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Number of passengers on scheduled flights between Helsinki-Vantaa airport and China exceeded one million in 2019, at 1,009,992 customers, according to figures released by the Finnish airports authority Finavia on Friday.
Figures showed that Chinese customers on routes to and from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region grew by 26.5 percent, and on routes to and from China's mainland by 18.1 percent.
Last year, two Chinese carriers began flights to Finland. Another Chinese carrier Juneyao is expected to begin offering flights in the coming months via Helsinki to Dublin, Manchester and Reykjavik, the airline announced earlier.
As for other Asian countries, routes to and from Japan had 837,000 passengers, up 11.2 percent year on year from 2018. While a small decline was recorded in services to and from South Korea (214,446 customers, -0.2 percent) and Singapore (195,617, -1.0 percent).
Petri Vuori, a Finavia senior executive, said in a press statement on Friday that in the summer season of 2020, 53 weekly flights to and from China as well as 45 weekly flights to and from Japan will be operated through Helsinki airport.
Finavia data also showed that 38.6 percent of the passengers of Helsinki-Vantaa airport in 2019 were. Flights to and from Japan, Germany, China and Sweden had the most international transfer customers. Enditem
