NAIROBI, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Kenya tennis team will head to Jakarta, Indonesia for the World Group II Play-off.

Kenya will take on Indonesia on March 6-7 and the winner will go on to compete in main World Group II ties in September together with losing nations from the World Group I Play-offs.

Tennis Kenya President James Kenani said the team is due to jet out to Indonesia in late February.

"We have sent scouts to look at the surface that we shall be playing on in Jakarta so as to identify a suitable place where the team will train," said Kenani.

Kenya had the opportunity to host the Davis Cup Africa Group III competition in Nairobi in 2019, defeating Madagascar, Algeria and Benin 2-1 before ousting Mozambique in the winning Play-Off to advance into the World Group II Play-offs in 2020 set for March.

Kenya has to beat Indonesia away, competing outside Africa for the first time in 17 years, to have the real chance to face the top nation in tennis. The team has moved its training camp from Nairobi to Mombasa.

"We are reviewing clips from their previous performances to understand Indonesia's strengths and weaknesses," head coach Rosemary Owino said. "It is a new assignment for the team and we hope to soak up the pressure and deliver. Preparations have started for Davis Cup."

The winner of the Kenya vs Indonesia play-off match will join the World Group II including Ukraine, Pakistan, Slovenia, Bolivia, Israel, Turkey, South Africa, Finland, Thailand, New Zealand, Switzerland, Peru, Norway, Portugal, Romania or China.

Meanwhile, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) has introduced six continental qualifiers for both the men's and women's singles events at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Tennis Event. The new qualification places have been approved by the IOC Executive Board as part of the Tokyo 2020 Qualification System for tennis that will be released by the IOC in the coming weeks.

The 2020 Olympic Tennis Event will once again feature five disciplines: men's singles and doubles, women's singles and doubles, and mixed doubles. Each singles draw will comprise 64 players, with a maximum of four players per nation. There will be 56 direct acceptances as at previous Games, and eight ITF places, including the six Continental Qualification places.

For the first time in Olympic history, players will have a chance to earn their place in the Olympic Tennis Event through success at one of the regional multi-sport games, including the 2018 Asian Games and 2019 African and Pan American Games. In addition, one place will be awarded to the highest ranked man and woman in both Europe and Oceania from a country not yet represented in singles. Enditem
