LES ROUSSES, France, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Oleg Domichek brought Russian biathletes' triumphant day to an end after claiming the gold medal in men's 12.5km individual of the Winter Youth Olympic Games here on Saturday.
Prior to Domichek's victory, his compatriot Alena Mokhova had managed a top finish in women's 10km individual.
Domichek missed one shot each in prone and standing positions, but recovered shooting performance thereafter. With clean shooting in the next two positions, he recorded a match-best time of 34 minutes and 9.4 seconds.
Austrian Lukas Haslinger ranked second with 13.6 seconds behind. Mathieu Garcia took third in home crowds' enthusiastic support, 54.9 seconds adrift of Domichek.
China dispatched three biathletes to men's category, with 44th-placed Shi Yuanyuan highest among the trio.
"I performed at a normal level. There was a huge gap in skiing from opponents. In shooting, I did well on speed, but my percentage of success was a little bit low."
Conceding ten errors in shooting, Gou Zhendong finished 74th. Fellow Chinese Liu Zhaoyu sat nine places further behind.
"I had too many errors in shooting," Gou rued his performance. "Relatively my skiing was better, while still trailing opponents. But I fought to my best."
Winter Youth Olympics biathlon action continued on Sunday with single mixed relay on the schedule. Enditem
