LA PLAGNE, France, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- German Francesco Friedrich snatched his second win of the season in the four-man bobsleigh at the 2019-2020 IBSF World Cup here on Sunday.
With his brake crew of Candy Bauer, Alexander Schueller and Thorsten Margis, the defending World Cup titleholders achieved the best start and run times in both heats. They won with one minute and 55.85 seconds, 0.21-second faster than another German quartet Johannes Lochner/Florian Bauer/Christopher Weber/Christian Rasp.
The third place went to Oskars Kibermanis/Lauris Kaufmanis/Arvis Vilkaste/Matiss Miknis of Latvia. The Olympic silver medallist Nico Walther of Germany and his teammates Paul Krenz, Kevin Korona, and Eric Franke missed the start of the season due to injury and finished fourth.
Following his win in La Plagne, Olympic champion Friedrich has extended his lead in the overall standings. After the fifth of eight races this season, Lochner is in second. Justin Kripps, who won the opening two World Cup races in Lake Placid, finished fifth in La Plagne to stay in third place overall. Enditem
