World leaders offer condolences over Sultan Qaboos' death

MUSCAT, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Several heads of state and government as well as foreign ministers and state officials on Sunday arrived in Muscat to offer condolences over the death of Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman, who passed away on Friday and was buried on Saturday.

According to official statements by the Omani government broadcast by the Oman News Agency, the new Sultan, Haitham bin Tariq al-Said, received Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

He also received King Hamad bin Issa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Tunisian President Kais Saied and King Abdullah II of Jordan.

Sultan Haitham also received British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Prince Charles of Wales, Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly and Algerian Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad.

The Royal Court of Oman had announced on Saturday the death of Sultan Qaboos at the age of 79. Enditem
