COLOMBO -- A passenger airline of Thai Lion Air made an emergency landing at Sri Lanka's Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on Monday after two of its passengers fell seriously ill, airport officials quoted in local media reports said here.

Officials said the airline had departed from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and was on its way to Surabaya in Indonesia when two Indonesian passengers fell ill. (Sri Lanka-Plane-Emergency Landing)

BANGKOK -- The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's (BMA) Health Department on Monday released a report indicating that nearly 40,000 people in the city's two main districts have sought medical treatment for respiratory illnesses at its hospitals since September last year.

Furthermore, the BMA's Environment Department also reported on Monday the unsafe levels of particulate matters in the two districts, and have urged residents to wear a mask outdoors. (Thailand-Respiratory Illnesses)

GARDEZ, Afghanistan -- A total of seven prisoners escaped from a jail in the eastern Paktia province on Sunday, provincial government spokesman Abdullah Hasrat said Monday.

According to the official, the seven detainees escaped the central jail in provincial capital Gardez city late Sunday night and the search for the inmates is currently underway.

However, he didn't say if the escapees were political detainees or criminals, adding investigation has been initiated to determine their identities and the nature of their crimes. (Afghanistan-Inmates-Escape)

AYBAK, Afghanistan -- The security forces in crackdown on the armed militants have captured four Taliban fighters from the northern Samangan province, said a statement of police released here Monday.

According to the statement, the militants were captured from Hazrat Sultan district when they were shifting a wounded militant by car to the neighboring Kunduz province for medical treatment. (Afghanistan-Taliban-Militants) Enditem
