Abu Dhabi crown prince meets Abe over UAE-Japan ties

DUBAI, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Monday met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who is on an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the official WAM news agency reported.

During their meeting at Qasr Al Watan Palace in the UAE's capital Abu Dhabi, they discussed the bilateral relations between the UAE and Japan and ways of supporting and enhancing them.

Sheikh Mohamed said the UAE and Japan have witnessed progress in the areas of trade, energy, investment, technology, space and education.

For his part, Abe explained Japan's deployment of a destroyer and reconnaissance planes to waters in the Middle East excluding the Gulf to safeguard commercial shipping, according to Kyodo News.

The UAE is the second leg of Abe's five-day trip to the Middle East, after he visited Saudi Arabia and met with King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Sunday. Enditem
