NAIROBI, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Kenya Sevens rugby team head coach Paul Feeney is confident of dominating the World Series and clinching a medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
Speaking in Nairobi on Wednesday, Feeney welcomed the return of utility top try scorer Collins Injera, who missed out representing the team in the season openers in Dubai and Cape Town.
"I am excited getting Collins back in the mix. He's obviously a very influential player. He trained hard at the start of the season before the first series tournaments but couldn't go to Dubai. I am looking forward to him adding to his try-scoring list too," Feeney said.
The coach has also included speedster Geoffrey Okwach, joint top try scorer at the International Safari Sevens, who just nine months ago was part of the Kenya U-20 squad that qualified for the World Rugby Junior Trophy after beating Namibia 21-18 in the Barthes Cup final in Nairobi.
The duo, alongside Herman Humwa are the three changes from the team that did duty in Dubai and Cape Town.
Jacob Ojee and Oscar Dennis who were part of the squad for the series openers are out of this tour to New Zealand on January 25-26 and Australia from February 1-2 through injury while Daniel Sikuta is rested.
"Getting Okwach in the team is important. A great young talent. Herman is in for these two tournaments, they are the three changes," added Feeney.
The Kenyan team, leaving Nairobi for Hamilton on January 18, will play in Pool B alongside South Africa, England and Japan. Hosts New Zealand are drawn against Scotland, the United States and Wales in Pool A.
The third-placed France face Ireland, Canada and Spain in Pool C, while reigning Olympic and Series champions Fiji will play Argentina, Australia and Samoa in Pool D. Enditem
