TOKYO, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday, buoyed by record leads from Wall Street overnight as upbeat retail sales data for December lifted sentiment.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 147.48 points, or 0.62 percent, from Thursday to 24,080.61.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 6.82 points, or 0.39 percent, at 1,735.54.
Securities house, metal product and machinery-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
