TOKYO, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks advanced Friday morning on the back of Wall Street's overnight rise, with a weaker yen against the U.S. dollar adding support.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 117.03 points, or 0.49 percent, from Thursday to 24,050.16.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 6.80 points, or 0.39 percent, at 1,735.52.
Marine transportation and securities house issues comprised notable gainers by the morning break. Enditem
