LOS ANGELES, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Four people were shot dead Friday at a residence in Grantsville, a town of about 10,000 people in the U.S. state of Utah, local police said.

There is no threat to the public since the suspect has been arrested, Grantsville Police Cpl. Rhonda Fields told reporters outside the house where the shooting occurred.

She said that the incident happened at about 7:00 p.m. local time (0200 GMT) on Saturday.

Details on the identities of the victims or suspects have not been released, but Robert Sager from Grantsville Police Department was quoted by local FOX 13 news channel as saying that the department is treating the deaths as homicides.

Governor of Utah Gary Herbert made a statement in response to the shooting on Twitter on Friday night.

"Our hearts are broken by the horrible news coming out Grantsville tonight. We mourn over the loss of innocent lives," he tweeted, adding "Parents and grandparents, secure your firearms! Everyone, hug your loved ones tight. And remember love, not hate, will heal broken individuals and families." Enditem
