PHNOM PENH, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- China's Hong Kong runner Cheng Yin Kwan won the second place in the annual Angkor Ultra Trail 128km challenge, which was held at the famed Angkor archaeological park in northwest Cambodia on Saturday and ended on Sunday.

Cheng was declared the second-place winner for the women's race after crossing the finish line in a time of 20:44:07, according to the result released by the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC).

Messina Veronique of France was crowned the women's champion after finishing at 17:30:26, the result showed.

For the men's 128km competition, Antoine Guillon of France was awarded the champion after he crossed the finish line at 12:12:57, it said.

NOCC's President and Tourism Minister Thong Khon attended the closing ceremony on Sunday afternoon and awarded trophies to the winners.

"Thanks to peace and political stability, the Angkor Ultra Trail has attracted more and more professional athletes from around the world," he said.

Some 1,255 runners from 45 countries and regions took part in the event, which was classified as four types of races - the 128km Ultra Trail, 64km trail, 32km trail, and 16km run.

The event aimed at promoting sports and attracting more tourists to the Angkor archeological park.

Located in Siem Reap province, the Angkor archeological park, inscribed on the World Heritage List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1992, is the kingdom's most popular tourist destination.

The ancient park received a total of 2.2 million foreign visitors in 2019, earning gross revenue of 99 million U.S. dollars from ticket sales, according to a government report. Enditem
