2nd LD: 6.6-magnitude quake strikes off central Indonesia, no tsunami warning issued

JAKARTA, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale rocked North Sulawesi province in central Indonesia on Sunday night, but no tsunami warning was issued, the meteorology and geophysics agency said.
The quake struck at 23: 58 p.m. local time (1658 GMT) with the epicenter at 64 km southwest Bolaang Mongondow Selatan district of the province and the depth at 95 km under the sea bed, the agency said.
No tsunami warning was issued by the agency as the quake did not potentially trigger tsunami, it said.
The intensity of the quake was felt at IV to V MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity) in Luwuk of nearby Central Sulawesi province and II to III MMI in Manado, capital of North Sulawesi province, Bitung, and Kotamobagu of the province, nearby Gorontalo province and Malili of nearby South Sulawesi province, it said.
Indonesia is frequently hit by quakes as it sits on a vulnerable quake-impacted zone called "the Pacific Ring of Fire." Enditem
