SINGAPORE, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- The upcoming Singapore Airshow 2020 is expected to gather together 1,000 participating companies from over 50 countries and regions and 55,000 trade attendees from 150 countries and regions this year, its organizer said here Monday.

The show will be held at the Changi Exhibition Center from Feb. 11 to 16, said Leck Chet Lam, Managing Director of Experia Events Pte Ltd, the airshow's orgainzer.

A total of eight Chinese exhibitors will take part in this year's airshow, among which 3 are new participants which include the China Aviation Hi-tech Industrial Base (CAIB).

Moreover, more than 300 aviation leaders from over 50 countries and regions, including transport ministers and senior executives of civil aviation authorities, international organizations, airports, airlines, aircraft manufacturers and air navigation service providers, will meet in Singapore during the Singapore Airshow Aviation Leadership Summit (SAALS) Feb. 10, he said.

This will represent Asia's largest international network of commercial, defense and government delegation in the aviation industry.

Themed "Enhancing Aviation's Value for Tomorrow", SAALS 2020 will discuss how the aviation industry can work together to address key challenges and enhance the value of aviation, to create the conditions for sustainable growth.

The key topics for discussion are capacity issues, technology issues and sustainability issues, namely building capacity to meet the growing demand for air travel; harnessing technology for the aviation industry's transformation; and addressing aviation's footprint on the environment, according to Han Kok Juan, Chairman of the SAALS 2020 Organizing Committee and Deputy Secretary (Hub Strategy) at the Singapore Ministry of Transport (MOT).

"Air passenger numbers are projected to double from four billion to eight billion in 20 years. There will be four billion new passengers; of these, one in two will be from Asia. The strong projected growth presents opportunities as well as challenges," he said.

Some 22 aviation leaders from around the world will speak on these issues and engage the delegates in panel discussions. They will discuss how to meet the demand for the growth of aviation industry while mind the impact on the climate changes at the same time, he added.

Running into its 7th edition, the biennial Summit is held in conjunction with Singapore Airshow 2020.

During this year's airshow, there will also be business forums, innovation forum, exhibitor-delegation meetings, hosted buyers programs, a platform for start-ups to interact with industry leaders and educational programs for the youth, Leck Chet Lam said. Enditem
