The accident occurred at Yardudu village of Mashi local government area of the northwestern state of Katsina, said the police.

A spokesman for the police in that state, Gambo Isah, said a detailed investigation had been launched into the incident.

The police officer said a preliminary investigation had revealed that the driver of a Lagos-bound truck had lost control along the highway. It was fully loaded with cows and passengers.

He said the head of the truck got disengaged from the carrier (body) and fell under the bridge, causing the havoc.
