WARSAW, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Polish javelin thrower Maria Andrejczyk hopes she will be able to show her best at Tokyo 2020.

Four years ago at Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, 19-year-old Andrejczyk made a surprise to take fourth place but the next two years turned out to be a real nightmare for her. She undergone a surgery due to a shoulder injury and then she couldn't get back into the shape.

"I did not deal with what happened to me. I did something that I love, it gave me a joy and suddenly I started to be afraid of it. I don't even want to fight. Fortunately, step by step with the help of loved ones I managed to get out of this state", Andrejczyk said in the interview for the Polish media on Monday.

Her main task for 2020 is to show the quality at Tokyo 2020. "I focus on everyday work, there is no sense for looking ahead. The prospect of winning an Olympic medal is very motivating, but when you think about it every day, it can also be mentally debilitating," Andrejczyk said.

"In addition, let's agree, at the moment talking about the Olympic podium doesn't make sense, because the girls performed very well last season. I do my job and I want to develop all the time. Nothing else interests me yet", added the javelin thrower.

"Thanks to the things I experienced I became stronger. I learned myself and my emotions. As an athlete I changed, I'm more professional. I realized that if I wanted to go back to the highest level, I had stop feeling sorry for myself and work very hard," claimed Andrejczyk. Enditem
