Sweden, Japan to meet in women's ice hockey final at YOG

LAUSANNE, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Defending champions Sweden beat Switzerland 2-0 to advance to the final of ice hockey women's 6-Team, while Japan overwhelmed Slovakia 5-0 in another semi-final at the Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games on Monday.

Sweden, who won the gold medal at Innsbruck 2012 and Lillehammer 2016, is one win away from making the three consecutive titles.

Anna Anderson broke the deadlock for Sweden with a power-play goal in the second period then extended the lead to 2-0 at the start of the third.

Japan got off to a flying start and lead by 2-0 just over three and a half minutes against Slovakia. Ito Makoto scored from a perfect combination to make Japan 3-0 in the last minute of the second period, where Slovakia never get back in the game.

In men's competition, Matvei Michkov hit four to lead Russia to smash Denmark 9-0 while Finland qualified for the semifinals by edging Switzerland 2-1 with a last minute winning-goal.

The men's semifinals will be the United States against Canada and Russia face off Finland. Enditem
