BOGOTA, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Colombian President Ivan Duque on Monday officially opened the third Hemispheric Ministerial Conference for the Fight Against Terrorism, which was held at a police academy in the capital Bogota.

The conference drew foreign ministers and envoys from 25 countries.

"This gathering serves to raise denunciations and sanctions, and to make international cooperation to tackle the scourge of terrorism increasingly tighter," said Duque.

Colombia's president met with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo just before inaugurating the conference, which was also attended by observers from Spain and Israel, as well as representatives from the United Nations' Counter Terrorism Committee, Interpol, and the Inter-American Convention Against Terrorism adopted by the Organization of American States (OAS).

Participants are scheduled to present the Bogota Declaration against terrorism later in the day. Enditem
