Belarusian president appoints new defense minister, chief of General Staff, Security Council

MINSK, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has appointed a new defense minister, chief of the General Staff as well as state secretary of the Security Council, the press service of the head of state reported on Monday.

Major-General Viktor Khrenin, who led the troops of the Western Operational Command earlier, was appointed as defense minister.

Major-General Aleksandr Volfovich, who previously served as first deputy head of the General Staff, was appointed as chief of the General Staff.

Defense Minister Lieutenant General Andrei Ravkov was appointed as state secretary of the Security Council, the press service said. Enditem
