TOKYO, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks lost ground Thursday morning, as investors took to profit taking following the market’s rise a day earlier, while a firm yen versus the U.S. dollar dented exporters.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 153.46 points, or 0.64 percent, from Wednesday to 23,877.89.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 8.43 points, or 0.48 percent, at 1,735.70.

Marine transportation, mining, and oil and coal product-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break. Enditem
