MACAO, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- The second case of the novel coronavirus has been reported in Macao, the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Center of China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) government announced on Thursday.

A 66-year-old man traveling from Wuhan of central China was sent to Centro Hospitalar Conde de Sao Januario Wednesday afternoon, after the health authorities in the Border Gate checkpoint found he had a fever, with his body temperature reaching 38.7 degrees centigrade.

He was tested positive with the novel coronavirus in the hospital and has been quarantined for medical treatment. His four family members traveling with him have also been quarantined for medical observation.

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced Thursday to cancel all events scheduled for the Spring Festival celebrations, including the golden dragon parade, the float parade and the float exhibition.

The SAR's Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng said at a press conference Thursday afternoon that the SAR government remained vigilant and was determined to preventing and controlling the outbreak of the pandemic.

He urged the public to stay at home during the Spring Festival if it is not necessary to go out. Meanwhile, the Macao residents in Wuhan were asked to stay where they are, and visitors in Macao from Wuhan were asked not to return to Wuhan. Enditem
