ISTANBUL -- A 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Turkey on Friday, leaving at least 18 people dead and more than 500 others injured.
The powerful quake jolted the Elazig province, some 750 km east of the capital Ankara. It took place around 8:55 p.m. local time (1755 GMT) at the epicenter, the town of Sivrice, according to the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute at Bogazici University. (Turkey-Quake-Deaths)

LA PAZ -- The interim government of Bolivia has suspended diplomatic relations with Cuba due to alleged interference in the country by the Cuban government, the Bolivian Minister of the Presidency, Yerko Nunez, announced on Friday.
"We have made the decision to suspend diplomatic relations with the Republic of Cuba. This decision is due to recent impermissible declarations by the (Cuban) foreign minister, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla," Nunez stated at a press conference in La Paz. (Bolivia-Cuba-Ties)

MOSCOW -- The launch of Russia's Soyuz-2 carrier rocket with a Meridian-M military communications satellite has been postponed indefinitely due to technical problems, Russian media reported on Friday.
