KHARTOUM, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- A senior Sudanese official on Saturday said there is a plot by elements of the former regime aiming to damage the oil fields in the west of the country, the Sudan Tribune reported.

"We have received reports indicating that some elements belonging to the regime of ousted President Omar al-Bashir are planning to target the oil production areas through igniting sedition among the tribes at those sites," Undersecretary of Sudan's Energy and Mining Ministry Hamid Suleiman was quoted as saying.

Suleiman stressed that the transitional government has adopted necessary precautions, and a security committee is regularly visiting all oil fields to prevent any incidents that may cause damage.

The country's main oil fields are located at East Darfur, West Kordofan and South Kordofan areas. Enditem
