ZAGREB -- The Croatian Defense Ministry confirmed on Monday that a Kiowa military helicopter with two crew members on board had crashed into the Adriatic Sea between Zablace and Zlarin in the Sibenik archipelago, killing one pilot.

Two helicopters were on a training flight that began at 10:30 a.m. local time, and one of them hit the water from a very low altitude about one hour later, the Defense Ministry said, adding that two naval coast guard vessels were dispatched to the scene immediately after the incident, and were joined by a helicopter and local rescue ships. WASHINGTON -- The death toll in a fire which destroyed a dock containing around 35 boats in the U.S. state of Alabama on Monday rose to eight, with more fatalities feared, local media reported.

All eight people known to be missing were confirmed dead, said Scottsboro Fire Chief Gene Mecklaus, adding "that number could go up, because we don't know how many were on boats." (US-Fire-Toll)

WASHINGTON -- Three people were believed to have been shot outside a courthouse in the U.S. state of Connecticut on Monday, local media reported.

ABUJA -- At least 14 people were killed when gunmen hit a village in Nigeria's Plateau, a state in the country's central region, several local sources said on Monday.
