ULAN BATOR -- More than 400 cases of house fires have been recorded across Mongolia since the beginning of January, claiming 16 lives, the country's National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said Tuesday.

"A total of 413 house fires have occurred across the country since the beginning of this month, killing 16 people, including two children," the NEMA said in a statement. (Mongolia-Fire-Death)

BERLIN -- German food retailers have been testing very thin, eatable protective layers directly applied to the peel of fruits to keep the products fresh and durable longer and reduce waste, according to major German supermarket chains Edeka Group and REWE Group on Monday.

Edeka Group, the largest supermarket chain in Germany, would use the "Apeel" technology developed by U.S. company Apeel Sciences, which consisted of purely vegetable materials found in the peel, seeds and pulp of all types of fruit and vegetables. JAKARTA -- A block concrete technology called 3B has been innovated to prevent landslides and shoreline shifts due to erosion by sea waves, the Indonesian Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) said on Tuesday.

In the Indonesian language, the 3B stands for berikat (connected), berlubang (hollows) and bertingkat (steps), which is designed to connect one to another block which has hollows, and installed as steps on stairs. (Indonesia-Concrete-3B)

BAGHDAD -- Caretaker Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday talked over the phone and condemned the rocket attack on the U.S. embassy in the Green Zone of Baghdad.

The two sides discussed strengthening the procedures of the Iraqi security forces responsible for protecting the U.S. embassy and other diplomatic missions, as well as following up investigations to bring those responsible for the attacks to justice, according to a statement issued by Abdul Mahdi's media office.
