JERUSALEM, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- "The highest-rated man-made threat in the world is the cyber threat," said Yigal Unna, director general of the Israel National Cyber Directorate.

The strongest and most qualitative defense against cyberattacks, according to Unna, is based on sharing information, innovation, supportive work environment, and an "industry-academia-government-military eco-system."

Unna spoke at the Cybertech Global 2020 Tel Aviv, which was held in Israel from Tuesday to Thursday.

The event, consisting of a conference and exhibition, was attended by about 20,000 people from more than 90 countries and regions, according to the organizers.

Amir Rapaport, founder of Cybertech, told Xinhua that many countries and organizations are looking for partnerships rather than competition in the field of cyber, which is the key to success in this area.

"We are all different people, companies and cultures from all over the world, but face the same challenge and need to secure the digital world," said Rapaport.

Hundreds of companies, tech giants, entrepreneurs, startups, state agencies, and governmental representatives from around the world came to seek innovation and cooperation during the event.

Israeli Minister of Energy Yuval Steinitz shared concerns about the growing global cyber threat such as attacks on nuclear facilities.

Cyber attacks have the potential to create havoc on all fronts, "but the most sensitive by far is the energy sector, from gas rigs to water supply chains," Steinitz said.

Yiftah Ron-Tal, chairman of Israel Electric Corporation (IEC), said it is no secret the number of state-sponsored cyber-attacks has grown and this is likely to continue.

IEC considers itself one of the most attacked and protected organizations in the world. In 2019, it suffered an average of 11,000 suspected cyber attacks per second.

Essential energy infrastructure is a preferred target of cyber terrorism. In the next decades, it is expected to evolve to a much more vulnerable system, according to Ron-Tal.

However, the cyber threat, according to Unna, is also the easiest in the world to deal with.

"If all of us pay more attention to security in the digital world as in the real world, it will be much easier to mitigate such global threat," Unna noted. Enditem
