Iran obstructed by Saudi Arabia from attending meeting on U.S. peace plan: ministry

TEHRAN, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said Sunday that Saudi Arabia has obstructed an Iranian delegation from attending the upcoming Jeddah meeting on the U.S. peace proposal for the Middle East.

Despite the invitation by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the secretariat of which is located in Jeddah, Saudi officials have refrained from issuing visas for the Iranian delegation to attend the meeting to discuss the U.S. plan, Abbas Mousavi said.

The Saudi measure is against the principles of the OIC and Iran will send a note of protest to the secretariat of the OIC in this regard, Mousai added.

OIC's Emergency Open-Ended Executive Committee Ministerial Meeting will convene in Jeddah on Feb. 3 at the request of Palestine to discuss the most recent developments with regard to Israeli-Palestinian conflict and U.S. President Donald Trump's "Deal of the Century."

Trump on Jan. 29 revealed the long-awaited plan, which promises to keep Jerusalem as Israel's undivided capital. Iran blasted the "Deal of the Century" as "the Most Despicable Plan of the Century." Enditem
