KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Eight militants have been killed as cleanup operations have been continuing around Kunduz city, the capital of the northern Kunduz province, provincial government spokesman Esmatullah Muradi said on Monday.

The operations, launched in Bagh-e-Shirkat and Shinwari areas outside Kunduz city on Sunday afternoon, have so far left eight armed militants dead and two others wounded, the spokesman added.

A total of 15 anti-personnel and anti-vehicle mines planted by the armed militants have also been discovered and defused, the official added.

Muradi also noted that the operations would continue until the area is cleared of the insurgents.

The Taliban militants have not commented on the report. Enditem
