DAMASCUS -- Syria's air defense was triggered early Thursday by a fresh Israeli missile attack over the capital Damascus, Syrian state TV reported.

The missiles, launched from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, targeted areas west of Damascus, as people there heard powerful explosions, said the report. (Syria-Air Defense-Israeli Attack)

JERUSALEM -- At least 14 people were injured, including one in a critical condition, after a car ran into pedestrians in central Jerusalem early Thursday morning, the Israeli Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency medical service said.

ROME -- Two people were killed as a high-speed train derailed near the northern Italian city of Lodi on Thursday, local media reported.

WASHINGTON -- Two U.S. Democratic lawmakers Wednesday urged President Donald Trump to extend the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) with Russia.

"With the New START Treaty just one year from expiration, we urge President Trump to reach an agreement with President Putin to extend it for five additional years," said Bob Menendez, a ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and House Foreign Affairs Chairman Eliot Engel in a statement.
