COLOMBO -- The Sri Lankan government will soon commence construction of a new terminal at the Bandaranaike International Airport in order to accommodate a larger number of arrivals, local media reported here Thursday.

Chairman of Airport and Aviation Services Sri Lanka Ltd (AASL), G.A. Chandrasiri told the Daily News here that currently the passenger capacity of the Bandaranaike International Airport was 6.9 million, but at the end of 2019, there were 10 million passenger arrivals. (Sri Lanka-Airport-Terminal)

NEW DELHI -- At least seven people were killed Thursday after inhaling toxic gas which leaked from inside a carpet factory in northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, officials said.

The incident took place at Jalalpur village in Sitapur district, about 75 km north of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. (India-Toxic gas)

MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan -- At least four militants were killed after the security forces stormed a Taliban hideout in Chamtal district of Afghanistan's northern Balkh province on Wednesday, an army statement said here Thursday.

According to the statement, the operation covered Yangi Qala area of the restive Chamtal district. The security forces killed four insurgents and discovered arms and ammunitions including anti-personnel mines, and destroyed them on the spot. (Afghanistan-Militants)

SEOUL -- South Korea's current account surplus hit the lowest in seven years last year on an export slump, caused by the global trade spat and the global chip industry's downturn, central bank data showed Thursday.

Current account surplus amounted to 59.97 billion U.S. dollars in 2019, down from a surplus of 77.47 billion dollars in the previous year, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK). (S.Korea-Current account surplus) Enditem
